Esther was a tricky client initially as she was in extreme pain with her feet from plantar fasciitis and had a job working as a Costa manager 40 hours a week so on her feet all the time. To have some level of coping with the pain Esther changed her footwear frequently in the day to try to help and did different tasks from standing and sitting. My initial consultation Esther limped into the clinic and was furniture walking as had been at work and usually once home would elevate her feet.
The fascia was very sensitive to even touch and her heel and ankle were affected, even standing was hard. First thing I did was to see if Esther could stand on the balls of her feet. She could and walk a short distance on her toes which was a bonus. All of the shoes Esther had been wearing were flat so I told her post first treatment part of her home work was to get some wedge heels. She thought I was mad as not worn any real heel in some time, these were for a specific purpose to use while standing in one place like using the till serving when busy.
The purpose of this was to shift the load to the toes and take some of the pressure off the fascia. This helped and over the course of a week Esther was able to stand for about 2 hours in much less pain. This enabled Esther to do two bursts a day when the pain was less than normal helping her team. The evening had improved as the movements Esther did helped with her ankle and swelling and one foot felt significantly better.

A few more treatments and the pain
was reducing to Esther been able to
stand for 4 to 5 hours virtually pain
free which was a revelation at work
and Esther structured her day and
team to help in her recovery.
Walking was something Esther wanted
to do not only for work but to do
activity at the weekend.
Another treatment and this happened (Text in image on left)
Progress was excellent from this session on as Esther was able to walk extended distances at the weekend and drive long distances also. This was highlighted by having a virtually pain free week at work, then driving to Cardiff and back with her son to view the university. Now not only the extended drive but Esther also clocked over 15000 steps in the day walking around which she was over the moon about!
Near the end of her treatment Esther had a mental wobble after a successful trip around Coventry University only 9000 steps this time that this progress and empowerment was going to end and the pain would return. I reassured Esther that the effects were long lasting and that she should push the boundaries to prove it so she went to the beach, long drive and long walk on the sand and was fine and amazed.
